Website design for a Christian podcast

A Christian podcast needs its own website because podcast apps are closed to search engines. Episode audio is invisible to Google and to AI search tools, so the website is where written episode content lives and where listeners can be reached directly. Builds start at $1,200.

Basic build $1,200 Homepage plus 1-2 subpages
Per episode page 150-300 words Summary plus key points
Time per episode page 10-15 minutes Above that, it stops happening
Where audio should live A podcast host Not your own server

Why does a podcast need a website at all?

Because podcast apps are closed. Nothing inside Apple Podcasts or Spotify is searchable on Google, and audio itself cannot be read by search engines or by AI search tools.

A website is where the written version lives. It is also the only place you can collect email addresses, which is the only audience you own rather than rent.

What does an episode page need?

A descriptive title, a summary of 150 to 300 words, the key points as a list, the guest's name if there is one, and the player itself.

The title is the part most podcasts get wrong. "Episode 47" is unfindable; "Why forgiveness stalls, with Anna Berger" is what someone actually searches.

Timestamps help listeners and add readable text. They cost two minutes per episode and make a long conversation navigable.

Do we need full transcripts?

They help considerably and they are more work than most podcasts sustain. Automatic transcription is now accurate enough to be worth correcting rather than typing, at roughly 10 to 15 minutes per 30-minute episode.

If transcripts are not realistic, a good summary captures most of the benefit. Publish either as text on the page, not only as a downloadable file, because AI crawlers read HTML far better than attachments.

Where should the audio be hosted?

On a podcast host, never on your own web server. Podcast hosts handle the feed that apps subscribe to, deliver audio reliably at any listener count, and provide download figures.

The website embeds their player. This keeps the site fast and means a sudden spike in listeners costs you nothing.

How do we stop the site going stale?

By keeping episode publishing under 15 minutes. If it involves uploading audio twice, resizing artwork and filling 8 fields, it stops around episode 12.

The realistic pattern is one page per episode, created from a short template, published in the same sitting as the episode itself. Anything that becomes a separate task later does not happen.

What does a podcast website cost?

The Basic package at $1,200 covers a homepage and an episode archive, which is what most podcasts need. The Medium package at $2,000 adds room for a guest page, a topics index and an about page.

Hosting with email is $15 per month. The podcast host is separate and typically runs $10 to $25 per month depending on how much you publish.

Frequently asked questions

Can the website host our RSS feed?

It can, and a dedicated podcast host is more reliable. Feed problems break subscriptions silently, which is the one failure listeners never report.

Should episodes be on YouTube as well?

If you can produce video without much extra effort, yes. YouTube is searchable in a way podcast apps are not, and YouTube mentions correlate strongly with visibility in AI answers.

Do we need a page per episode?

Yes, if you want episodes findable. A single archive page listing 60 titles gives search engines almost nothing to match against a specific question.

How do we grow an email list from a podcast?

Mention it in the episode and put the sign-up on every episode page. Listeners act while listening, so the ask has to be verbal as well as visual.

Can you set up the podcast feed itself?

The website side and the embedding are part of the build. Choosing and configuring the podcast host stays with you, since it involves your account and billing.
